Conferences at the Steve Tisch School of Film and Television
The Tel Aviv International Colloquium on Cinema and Television Studies was launched in 1996 by the School of Film and Television, at the initiative of Judd Ne’eman, Régine-Mihal Friedman, Nurith Gertz, and Orly Lubin, and was organized by Raz Yosef. The first colloquium, Blurred Boundaries, brought together Israeli and international scholars for three days of lectures and discussion. A selection of papers from the event was later published in the first volume of Kolnoa, Tel Aviv University’s journal of cinema and television studies.
Since then, the colloquium has become a central academic tradition of the Steve Tisch School of Film and Television, convening leading scholars from Israel and abroad to address key questions in cinema, television, and media studies. Its programs have included lectures and presentations by renowned scholars of film, television, and media studies.
Alongside the international colloquium, the School hosts a wide range of academic conferences, symposia, and lecture series, including The Television Studies Conference, with international keynote speakers, local television scholars, and representatives of the Israeli television industry, Women’s Cinema and Television, hosting filmmakers and television creators, Mizrahi Studies in Cinema and Television, featuring leading film scholars and sociologists, Film and Philosophy, Documentary Cinema and Philosophy, Adventures in Cinema Studies: In Memory of Annette Michelson, and various other events and guest lectures. These forums reflect the School’s commitment to research, critical debate, and dialogue between scholars, filmmakers, and students.
