A new and unique track – B.A. and M.F.A in acting for honors students

Graduates will be granted a B.A. degree and a M.F.A degree within 4 years instead of 5 years.

Productions of the Department of Theatre Arts:

  • The department presents several theatre production of various types each year
  • The students experiment with the entire variety of prediction roles, in a unique production process where a dialogue between the performing arts take place and while dealing with issues in performance research

 

About the program:

 

Extensive theoretical studies and a practical experience in the various fields of theatre: acting, direction, design, production and community-based theatre in the country's most senior department (since 1958).
 

Many of the department's veterans are included among the supporting pillars of the theatrical creation in Israel:
 

Actors: Sasson Gabai, Yona Elian, Moni Moshonov, Dalik Volonitz, Sholmo Bar-aba, Izik Veingertan, Dvir Bandak, Limor Goldstein, Tal Friedman, Zvika Hadar, Rami Vered, Dan Shapira, Alma Zak and others.
 

Directors: Hanan Snir, Rut Kenar, Yael Kremsky, Dudi Maayan, Igaal Azarti, Moshe Kepten, Sinai Peear, Shir Goldberg and others.
 

Playwrights: Shmuel Hasfari, Hillel Mittelpunkt, Edna Mazya, Shachar Pinkas, Hana Azoulay-Hasfari, Eyal Weiser, Oded Lipschits and others.
 

Designers: Prof. Miriam Gortzky, Roni Toren, Dana Zarfati, Orna Smorgonsky, Oded Bambi-Friedman, Kineret Kish and others.

Studies for and M.A. in the Theatre Arts


Theoretical and practical training in the fields of art, performance and visual culture creation

 

Study tracks:

  1. The theoretical track – towards an M.A. degree
    Designated to cultivate high level researchers, theatre instructors and culture agents.
  2. The practical track – towards an M.F.A degree
    Designated to train artists-researchers who possess theoretical knowledge and practical expertise in the fields of theatre, an ability to initiate, lead and guide a team of creators towards a collaborative stage creation, as well as an ability to observe the processes of the stage creation in a critical and intelligent manner and publish those as an academic research.

 

 

Course of studies:

 

The theoretical track: towards an M.A. degree, offers two tracks:

The research track: the students will study 32 semester hours and complete their studies by writing a thesis paper. With the completion of their studies the students will receive an M.A. degree. Students who complete this track will be viable to apply for studies towards a PhD in accordance with the terms of admission.

The theoretical track: the students will study 36 semester hours and will complete their studies by partaking in a final exam. Students who complete this track with honors and are interested in continuing to a PhD will be able to do so only after writing a proposal for a thesis paper and writing a thesis paper which complies with the terms of admission for a PhD.

Duration of studies: Two years

 

The practical track: towards an M.F.A. degree

This program includes theoretical and practical studies, as well as a specialization in a stage creation as part of the final project of the studies for the degree. The theoretical studies are common to all of the study tracks of the M.A. degree and provide a framework for discussion, exchange of ideas and points of view, and examination of the conditions and aspects of representation of theatrical products of different types as social-cultural phenomena.

As part of the practical studies, the program offers research and a specialization in the following fields: theatre directing, Community-based theatre directing, actor creator/researcher, and dramatic writing and dramaturgy. The students will study 46 semester hours and will complete their studies with an artistic production project in accordance with their track of studies, and with a written or an oral exam.

Final project: the final project of the practical track is an artistic project and a written or an oral exam in a subject relating to the artistic project.
