The Tel Aviv University (TAU) Department of Theatre Arts is Israel's largest and oldest theatre program, offering undergraduate and graduate studies in theatre research, acting, directing, design, and community theatre. Bridging theory and practice, the various programs allow students to complete their academic and professional education by creating theatre performances at TAU Theatre, which is fully operated by the department.

The TAU Theatre is the hub of the department’s practical work and provides a platform for acting, directing, and design students to gain hands-on experience. Throughout their BA studies, all students participate in production lessons and are involved in preparing and creating TAU Theatre productions. They serve as stage technicians and gain experience in costume making, set building, lighting and sound system operation, production, and stage management.

During their MA studies, students take on more advanced roles, acting, directing, designing (sets, costumes, and lighting), and producing the theatre’s shows, all while being mentored by the department’s academic staff and expert theatre practitioners.

Each academic year, TAU Theatre produces 6 to 8 fully designed shows, featuring classical, contemporary, original, and experimental plays. These productions are staged in three venues: Schottlander Hall (200 seats), Krauthammer Hall (70 seats), and the TAU Gallery (70 seats).

TAU Theatre is committed to producing theatre of the highest artistic and intellectual quality while upholding professional standards of excellence. Its primary aim is to serve the academic and pedagogical needs of the students, helping them develop their skills and providing them with a comprehensive professional toolkit.
