The Buchmann-Mehta Symphony Orchestra

The Buchmann-Mehta School of Music Symphony Orchestra is the school’s representative Symphony Orchestra and is comprised of 100 students of the school's Orchestral Training Program working towards becoming professional skilled orchestral performers.

The Orchestra holds two series of concerts annually at the Clairmont hall on Tel Aviv campus while giving its members an opportunity to become familiar with the main orchestral repertoire, and performs annually in a festive gala concert with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra at the Lowy Concert Hall under the baton of Maestro Zubin Mehta. The Orchestra has also performed abroad where its latest tours include performances at the "Sala Sao Paulo" in Brazil, "Auditorio Nacional di Musica" in Madrid and the" Konzerthaus" in Berlin. Among the musicians that have collaborated with the orchestra are: Conductors Zubin Mehta and Christoph von Dohnanyi, Manfred Honeck, Ivan Fischer Gianandre Noseda, soloists Yo Yo Ma, Maxim Vengerov, Julian Rachlin among many others.

Within the framework of the orchestral training program, the students work closely with the principal players of the I.P.O., compete with the basic essential skills of orchestral playing (sectional practice, preparation of parts, auditions) and participate in workshops for the different instruments (wind, brass and percussion workshops).

The head of the orchestral training program is Mr. Yoel Abadi. Throughout the academic year, the orchestra is also conducted by additional conductors as Eyal Ein-Habar, Yoav Talmi, Yi-An Xu, Ronen Borshevsky amongst others. The framework of the orchestra consists of several projects. Each project lasts four weeks. Two rehearsals are held every week. At the end of the project, the orchestra holds a series of concerts. Between the projects, the orchestra goes into recess which enables the students to be available for other activities and prepare their respective orchestral parts for the next projects.
