New Master’s Degree Choral Conducting Program for International Students at the BMSM
Graduate students are welcome to apply for the Master’s degree in choral conducting.
The program emphasizes practical conducting experience and includes weekly individual lessons with Mr. Ronen Borshevsky, Head of the Choral Studies Track at the BMSM, regular conducting sessions with the school’s Chamber and Oratorio choirs, as well as orchestral conducting opportunities and contemporary music workshops. Excelling Students will conduct the school’s choirs in public concerts both with a-cappella repertoire and choral/orchestral repertoire with orchestra or an instrumental ensemble.
The repertoire covered by the program is challenging and diverse, encompassing music from different eras and styles, from 13th century organum and up to contemporary composers, a capella works as well as large-scale oratorio literature.
The school’s affiliation with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and, specifically, the strong bond between the school’s chamber choir and the Gary Bertini Israeli Choir (the IPO house choir), both directed by Ronen Borshevsky, offers further opportunities for conducting students to attend and participate in concerts with some of the world’s leading conductors, such as Zubin Mehta, Manfred Honeck Kirill Petrenko and others.
The Buchmann-Mehta School of Music encourages excellent graduates to apply to the program. Tuition scholarships and stipends are offered for outstanding candidates.
