Audition repertoire and requirements* - M.Mus & Artist's Diploma

 

Note: candidates who completed their Bachelor's degree more than a year before applying for graduate studies will be required to undertake an entry examination, unless decided otherwise.

 

String instruments

 

Violin

  1. Bach – Adagio and Fugue from the Sonata for violin solo in G or from the Partita for violin solo in C, or Chaconne, or four movements from another Partita
  2. Violin concerto in its entirety
  3. Entire Sonata stylistically different from the concerto
  4. Paganini – two Capriccios or any other virtuoso work
  5. Israeli work

International students are required to perform a contemporary work instead of an Israeli work

 

 Viola

  1. Bach – Suite in its entirety, or Sonata for viola da gamba
  2. Concerto in its entirety such as Bartok, Walton or one of equivalent difficulty
  3. Entire Sonata stylistically different from the concerto
  4. Contemporary work
  5. Israeli work

International students are required to perform a contemporary work instead of an Israeli work

 

Violoncello

  1. Bach – Suite in its entirety, or Gamba Sonata or a Baroque virtuoso work (Valentini Sonata, Boccherini Sonata, Locatelli or Francœur)
  2. A concerto in its entirety
  3. Entire Sonata stylistically different from the concerto and the Baroque sonata
  4. A contemporary work or virtuoso work
  5. Israeli work or work of the candidate’s choice

 

International students are required to perform a contemporary work instead of an Israeli work

 

Double-Bass

  1. Bach – a solo cello suite or a full Baroque piece
  2. A concerto in its entirety
  3. Entire Sonata stylistically different from the concerto
  4. A contemporary or Israeli work
  5. Selected orchestra parts (at the discretion of the judges and examiners)

The candidate must demonstrate capacity in the instruments: small drum, xylophone or timpani as follows:

  One etude from Goldenberg book, Hungarian book etc.

  Sight reading of different rhythms

  Tremolo playing

 

  1. Xylophone

 scales and arpeggios

  one piece for xylophone and piano

 

  1. Timpani

  An exercise for two or three instruments

  Sight reading

  Tremolo playing

  Hearing for tuning audition

 

  1. Elementary audition in rhythms and hearing, repeating rhythms, solfege – recognizing and singing of intervals.

  1. Bach – Prelude and Fugue from “The Well-Tempered Piano” or a Suite or a Partita
  2. A classical work in its entirety

Organ

 

  1. Baroque work (Frescobaldi, Couperan, Buxtehude)
  2. A work by J.S. Bach
  3. Romantic work (Mendelssohn, Frank)
  4. Contemporary work

Vocal

 

  1. Song or Aria from the Baroque
  2. Song or Aria from the Classical period
  3. Four Art songs (Lieder) from the Classical, Romantic, Impressionist periods and others. At least two different periods are mandatory.
  4. At least four Arias from an oratorio or opera.
  5. Two Israeli Art songs (international applicants can choose to prepare art songs from their country of origin instead).
  6. Contemporary work

 

Five different languages are mandatory (such as: Hebrew, Italian, German, English, Latin, Spanish, Russian, French, Czech, Finnish etc.)

Conducting

 

The school reserves the right to make changes in the repertoire requirements from year to year
Repertoire for 2014-2015 academic year

 

Orchestral conducting

a. Two entire works have to be prepared for conducting with two pianos:

 1. Brahms - symphony no.3 - first and fourth Movements

 2. Schumann - symphony no.2 - third and fourth Movements

b.  Personal interview, including a discussion of the works prepared by the candidate.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Choral Conducting

 

Choice of 6 pieces from the list below:

 

  1. Josquin de Prez – 2 movements from "Missa Panga Lingua"
  2. C. Monterverdi – 2 Madrigals from "Lamento d'Arianna"
