Dr. Ella Toovy Zori

Contemporary Music

Cellist Ella Toovy holds an active career chamber music and contemporary music. A founding member of the Alexander trio, she also served as the principal cellist for the Netanya-Kibbutz Chamber Orchestra and is a member of the Israeli Contemporary Players, performs in versatile chamber music settings and, in collaboration with pianist Irit Rub, curates a series of chamber music concerts in Beit Yizhak, Israel

 

During her stay in New York, she had performed regularly in the New York area as a chamber musician and in recitals performing at venues such as Weill and Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, Steinway Hall among others. For three seasons she had formed and led the LINK Ensemble, designed to present programs crossing between contemporary and traditional music inspired by other art forms.

 

Ella holds a DMA from Mason Gross School at Rutgers University and a Master's degree from the Manhattan School of Music. She completed her undergraduate studies at the Rubin Academy of Music in Jerusalem with Professor Shmuel Magen. She also holds a BA in Middle Eastern Studies from the Hebrew University. She continued her studies in the USA with Mr. Alan Stepansky and Mr. Jonathan Spitz

 

A sought after teacher, Ella had served on the faculty of the Manhattan School of Music Precollege Division, the Kaufman Center, and the New York Youth Symphony Chamber Program. She was regularly invited to teach and perform in the New York Summer Music festival and the Waterville Chamber Music Program. In Israel she is on faculty at Givataaim conservatory and works regularly with the Jerusalem Music Center programs for advanced young players, coaching chamber music groups.
