Michael Slatkin

Horn

Michael Slatkin was born in New Jersey, USA in 1967.  He began studying the horn at age 10 with Alan Orloff in New York.  He received a Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music in 1989, in Rochester, USA, having studied with Verne Reynolds for 4 years.  After Eastman, Mr. Slatkin studied for 2 years with Phil Myers, principal horn in the New York Philharmonic.  In 1991, he joined the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra as Associate Principal Horn.  Mr. Slatkin has appeared on many recordings with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and has recorded with the New York Philharmonic as well.  He has also been the Principal Hornist of Tel Aviv’s Musica Nova Ensemble since 1991.  He has been a member of the Israel Philharmonic Brass Quartet and the Philharmonic Woodwind Quintet and has appeared as soloist with many of the orchestras in Israel.  He has been on the faculty of the Buchmann - Mehta Academy in Tel Aviv since 1996, and also serves on the faculties of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, as well the the Workshop Conservatory in Jerusalem.
