Prof. Michal Grover- Friedlander

Musicology

Prof. Michal Grover-Friedlander is a musicologist in the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music at Tel Aviv University. Her book publications include Vocal Apparitions: The Attraction of Cinema to Opera (Princeton, 2005) and Operatic Afterlives (Zone, 2011). She has written the chapter “Voice” in The Oxford Handbook of Opera (Oxford, 2014) among several other articles. Currently she is working on a book on directing opera’s voices. She works mainly on voice, death, 19th and 20th century opera, opera and cinema, and opera direction. Michal Grover Friedlander is also an opera director and artistic manager of the opera group Ta Opera Zuta. She worked in Italy, Germany and Israel and in 2016 will stage Satie’s Socrate in Tokyo.
