Audition Repertoire and Requirements - Graduate studies
*** Please note that the school has edited the repertoire list in 2022 and the repertoire may have changed
Violin
1. Bach – any two first movements from one of the violin sonatas, or the Chaconne, or 4 contrastive movements from one of the partitas for violin solo. In case of 1st partita – candidates should play two contrastive movements with their doubles.
2. Two movements from a concerto
3. Two contrastive movements from a sonata – different in style from the concerto
4. Paganini caprice or a short virtuoso piece similar in difficulty.
5. An Israeli piece*
*foreign candidates may prepare a contemporary piece instead of an Israeli work.
Special requests regarding the program must be approved by the head of Strings Department
Viola
1. Bach – at least 3 movements (Sarabande compulsory) from a cello solo suite or two contrastive movements from a Gamba sonata.
2. At least two contrastive movements from an original 20th century viola concerto.
3. At least two contrastive movements from either a classical or romantic sonata
4. A contemporary piece, or an Israeli piece, or a virtuoso piece
Special requests regarding the program must be approved by the head of Strings Department
Cello
1. Bach – at least 3 movements (Sarabande compulsory) from a cello solo suite or two
contrastive movements from a Gamba sonata, or a baroque virtuoso work.
2. At least two contrastive movements from a concerto.
3. At least two contrastive movements from a sonata - different in style from the concerto or the baroque sonata
4. A contemporary piece, or a short virtuoso piece with or without piano (such as a Piatti caprice or Popper Elfentanz)
5. An Israeli piece*
*foreign candidates may prepare a contemporary piece instead of an Israeli work.
Special requests regarding the program must be approved by the head of Strings Department
Double-Bass
1. A full Baroque piece
2. A full Classical or Romantic concerto (to be played by memory) or a full Classical or Romantic sonata.
3. A contemporary piece
4. A piece of your choice or orchestral excerpts in case the program does not reach a duration of 30 minutes
(In case a concerto was not chosen in the above clause 2., the student must play another piece of the program by memory)
