Audition repertoire and requirements - Undergraduate studies

Violin
1. A movement from a concerto*
2. A movement from a sonata – in contrast to the concerto character
3. Bach – a movement from any sonata or partita for solo violin
4. An etude or a short virtuoso work
*In case of the Shostakovich’s Concerto No.1 – Cadenza + 4th movement
Special requests regarding the program must be approved by the head of Strings Department
Viola
1. First movement or second and third movements from a classical concerto, or one movement piece for viola and orchestra
2. A movement from a sonata, or a work for viola & piano - different in style and period to the concerto (and no baroque)
3. Bach - Prelude or two movements from one of the cello suites, or 2 contrastive movement from a baroque sonata.
Special requests regarding the program must be approved by the head of Strings Department
Cello
1. A movement from a classical, romantic or modern concerto
2. A movement from a classical, romantic or modern Sonata – different in style, period and technical difficulty from the concerto movement.
3. Bach – prelude or two dances from one of the cello suites or two contrastive movements from a baroque sonata.
Special requests regarding the program must be approved by the head of Strings Department
Double-Bass
1. Etude/ movement from a concerto or sonata / full short piece
2. A movement or a full short piece from a different era and in a different character than clause 1. above
